Most cars equipped with an automatic transmission have a feature commonly known as "shift lock," which prevents the driver from shifting out of park when the car is off, when the foot brake isnt applied or when the cars computer senses damage to the engine or transmission. Whatever the situation, sometimes the driver has to override a locked transmission in order to move the car.
Instructions
1 Apply pressure to the foot brake, and turn the engine on.
2 Attempt to shift from park. Sometimes the car rolls backwards during parking, causing the shifter to be slightly stuck, not "locked." If it doesnt budge, its probably the shift lock.
3 Turn off the engine.
4 Search "shift lock" in the index of your Audis manual. Over the years, Audi has used different types of shift locks, two of the most common being an actual button near the shifter, and the other requiring the removal of the plastic panel surrounding the shifter.
5 Depress the shift-lock override button. If the button or mechanism is under the panel that surrounds the shifter, follow your manuals instructions to remove the panel.
6 Shift the car into neutral while still holding or pressing the shift lock override and with pressure still applied to the brake.
7 Turn on the engine while the car is in neutral, and shift into drive or reverse.

Audi created the radio in a 1998 A4 with security in mind. The radio has a built in anti-theft system that locks out the radio functions whenever it loses battery power. This loss of power could be caused by a disconnected battery, faulty battery or simply a battery with a low charge. Regardless of the reason for loss of power, a security code is required to restore the radio to its normal operating condition. If youve lost your radio code, youll need to gather some information and visit your local Audi dealership in order to obtain a new radio code.
Instructions
1 Locate your motor vehicle title or registration and put it in a folder that you can take to the dealership. This has your 17-character VIN on it and proves your ownership of the vehicle.
2 Disconnect the negative battery terminal on your battery, using a battery terminal wrench.
3 Insert both special radio removal tools into the front slots on the radio press them down until they detach the radio retaining tabs. Grip both special tools and pull the radio out of the dashboard.
4 Look on the top or the back side of the radio for a serial number. Write this number down on a piece of paper and put it in the folder with your vehicles registration.
5 Depress the locking tabs on the back of the radio to remove the tools, then set the radio back into the dashboard and press it into place until it is flush with the dash and you hear the locking tabs engage.
6 Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Travel to your local Audi dealership and visit the service department. Tell them that you need a code for your radio. Wait while they access the security database on their computer, then provide your VIN and proof of ownership along with your radio serial number. They will input this information into the system to obtain your radio code.

You can reset the SRS or airbag light on your Audi using an OBD diagnostic tool. This can be purchased from an auto parts retailer. The OBD diagnostic tool can read the trouble codes from the vehicles On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) computer. Then, after you have repaired the vehicle, you can also reset and clear the light from the instrument panel using this same tool. If you dont wish to purchase one, you can borrow one from most auto parts stores for free. Usually the mechanic who repairs your Audi will reset the light, but not always.
Instructions
1 Park on flat, level ground. Look for the OBD II port near the hood release on the Audi. The OBD II port is also known as the OBD II interface or diagnostic port. Once you locate it, connect it to the OBD tool.
2 Put the key into the ignition and turn the vehicle to the "on" position. Look on the face of the diagnostic tool and wait for the trouble codes to display. Look for the "Delete" button or menu command and press it to delete the codes and reset the SRS light.
3 Unplug the OBD diagnostic tool from the port and turn off the vehicle. Wait one minute.
4 Turn on the engine and examine the instrument panel to make sure the SRS or airbag light has turned off.
