You can read the diagnostic codes on your 95 Chevy Lumina V6 using an OBD I scan tool. This small computerized device is used to read the codes and reset the computer after repairs have been made. It can be purchased from most auto parts stores. Trouble codes are stored by the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) computer to help you troubleshoot malfunctions within the vehicle. Some codes pertain to the servicing needs of the Chevy.
Instructions
1 Locate the fuse panel cover near the steering column and open it by pulling downwards on it with your fingers. Find the port inside and plug the OBD I scan tool into this port.
2 Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position but dont start the engine. Turn on the scan tool.
3 Wait for the scan tool to retrieve the codes. Write the codes it displays down on a piece of paper. Turn off the vehicle and unplug the scan tool.
4 Look up the meaning of the codes in the OBD scan tool manual.

Instructions

A mechanical automotive thermostat usually mounts in one of two locations on the engine -- on top, connected to the upper radiator hose or on the bottom, connected to the inlet on the water pump. Replacement of a top-mounted thermostat requires less time and fewer tools. Fortunately for Chevy Lumina V6 owners, the thermostat location is on the top of the engine. This makes the task of locating and replacing the thermostat an easier process.
Instructions
1 Open the engine hood on your V6 Lumina by pulling the hood release latch on the drivers-side kick panel, under the dashboard.
2 Locate the upper radiator hose connected to the back of the radiator.
3 Follow the upper radiator hose from the back of the radiator to the location where the hose connects to the engine. The hose mounts to the thermostat housing lid. The thermostat rests submerged in coolant inside the housing.

The 1991 Lumina is a car manufactured by Chevrolet. If you are having problems getting your four-door sedan to start, you might want to check the battery and the fuel levels. Both of these components are crucial to starting the car. If the battery is low on a charge, you will be able to charge it through a jump-start. Filling your gas tank could also be a quick fix to your problem.
Instructions
1 Look over the gas gauge in your Lumina. Make sure you have enough gas to start the car. Add some fuel to the tank if you think your gas gauge might be broken or faulty.
2 Open the Luminas hood and check over the battery. Look for any signs of corrosion.
3 Take a socket wrench and loosen the battery terminals. Disconnect the battery terminals from the battery and clean them with a wire brush and a can of soda.
4 Reattach the terminals to the Luminas battery and then try to restart the car.
5 Jump the car with a friends car and a pair of jumper cables. Leave the car running for five minutes to charge the battery.
6 Shut the car off and then try to restart the car. If the car will not start, replace the battery.
