If the airbag light of your Ford Aerostar keeps blinking or you are concerned about the airbag not working in the event of an accident, you might want to remove the factory airbag in order to replace the part. The Ford airbag is attached to the steering wheel with Torx screws in the back and can be removed in just a few minutes. Save the time and money of taking it to a mechanic by removing the airbag yourself.

Instructions

    1

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Ford Aerostar from the battery post with an open-end wrench before attempting to remove the airbag. Let the vehicle sit for 30 minutes to allow the airbag to discharge before removing the device.

    2

Remove the screws that secure the steering column cover underneath the steering column with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Take the steering column cover off the steering column and set it out of the way.

    3

Locate the orange plastic connector inside the steering column and squeeze the ends of the clip to separate the electrical connector. Find the end of the electrical wire that runs to the steering wheel and detach the electrical wire connector from the post inside the column.

    4

Remove the two Torx screws from the back of the steering wheel with a Torx bit and socket wrench. Lift the steering wheel cover and airbag assembly off the steering wheel just enough to locate the electrical wire connectors on the back of the cover.

    5

Disconnect the electrical wire connectors on the back of the steering wheel cover and remove the cover and airbag assembly from the Ford Aerostar.
