The Toyota Prius is a hybrid electric-gas, mid-sized vehicle. One of the standard features of the car is a keyless entry system and alarm transmitter that is built into the vehicles key. At times, you will need to replace the battery inside the Prius key.
Instructions

Push the latch on the top of the key to the left and pull the medal door key out of the plastic frame.

Turn the key over and press the key latch all the way down.

Push the back of the key in the opposite direction with your thumb.

Pull the top of the key all the way off.

Unscrew the four Phillips screws holding the battery in place and remove the battery.

Insert a new CR2032 battery in the battery holder and replace the Phillips screws.
Automotive battery terminal corrosion can be caused by a number of different factors. Typically, battery corrosion should be taken as a sign your battery is older and may be having issues. Corrosion can affect the way your cars battery works and is acidic enough to destroy almost anything that comes in contact with it.
Faulty Terminals
Battery corrosion can be caused by loose or improperly functioning battery terminals. If the connectors and terminals are not tight, corrosion can build when gases and other substances come in contact with the metal on the battery terminals or posts, causing chemical reactions. Dirty battery terminals will also cause corrosion, because the dirt causes the terminal connection to be looser than it would be otherwise.
Battery Gases
One of the primary causes of battery corrosion occurs when gases from inside the battery escape into the outside air where they come in contact with the battery posts and terminals, causing corrosion to build on the metal of the posts and terminals. Battery gases may escape due to loose or improperly functioning battery terminals or cracks or holes in the actual battery casing.
High Temperatures
The warmer the climate you live in, the more quickly corrosion will build on your battery. Power Battery claims that batteries kept in climates of temperatures where the battery is regularly warmer than 77 degrees Fahrenheit will corrode more rapidly than those in cooler climates.
Removing the battery from your PT Cruiser requires removal of the air cleaner assembly before you can access the retaining bolt on the battery-retaining bracket. The air cleaner and the battery sit on the drivers side of the engine compartment, one behind the other. Removing the old battery may be necessary if the battery is not holding a charge and it needs to be tested or if you need to access parts or components below the battery and battery tray.

Locate the air cleaner housing just behind the battery on the drivers side of the engine compartment. Unsnap the two clips that secure the top to the bottom of the assembly and lift the top off. Set it aside for now.

Lift the air cleaner element out of the lower portion of the air cleaner assembly. Set it aside, then grasp the side of the lower assembly, pull it straight up and remove it from the engine compartment.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal, using a wrench to loosen the clamp bolt on the cable end, and lift it off the terminal. Isolate it from the battery terminals, then remove the positive cable in the same way.

Locate the retaining bolt on the upper-rear of the battery. Remove the bolt with a wrench, then lift the retaining bracket off the battery. Lift the battery out of the car.
Many situations require you to connect a battery cable. Three such examples follow.

Replacing the Battery Cables on Your Vehicles
1 Wrench
Remove the old cables from your battery by loosening the bolts on both cable ends with a wrench. Take both cables off the battery posts, starting with the negative cable.

Disconnect the negative cable from the engine block. Remove the positive cable from the solenoid, relay or starter.

Clean both battery posts with a wire brush. Connect the positive cable to the solenoid, relay or starter. Connect the other end to the battery post and tighten both ends with a wrench. Connect the negative battery cable to the engine block where you took it off. Connect the other end to the negative post on the battery and tighten both ends with a wrench.
Connecting Jumper Cables

Clean both cables on the battery with a wire brush to get a good connection.
5 Hook up to the positive (+) post on the battery first.
Connect one end of the jumper cables to the positive (+) side of the dead battery. Always start with the positive (+) cable. Connect the other end of the jumper cable to the positive (+) side of the fully charged battery.
6 Negative sign
Connect the negative (-) side of the jumper cables to the fully charged battery first. Connect the other end of the jumper cable to the engine. Locate an unpainted bolt or nut and place the other end of the jumper cable on it, being sure the bolt or nut is free of grease and dirt. This will let you start your vehicle.
Connecting the Second Battery in the Vehicle

Connect a second battery in parallel with the first battery, i.e., hook the negative (-) post from the first battery to the negative (-) post on the second battery first. Hook the positive (+) post from the first battery to the positive (+) post on the second battery.

Remove the nut from the negative (-) cable and take the cable off the battery. Take the nut off the positive (+) cable end and place the eyelet of the new cable on the bolt, then replace the nut and tighten with a wrench. Place the other end of the cable on the positive (+) post on the second battery, tighten with a wrench.

Connect one cable end to the negative (-) post of the second battery and tighten with a wrench. Place the other end with the eyelet on the negative (-) cable end bolt on the first battery and replace the nut. Reconnect the cable to the first battery and tighten nut with a wrench.
A car battery stores electrical current generated by the alternator. If it is not working correctly or has reached the end of its life span, which typically is to to three years, it must be replaced. The process for changing a battery in a 2001 Ford Ranger requires the use of basic tools.

Open the 2001 Ford Ranger hood. Locate the battery at the front of the engine on the right side. Disconnect the negative (black) terminal by loosing the connection with the adjustable wrench. Disconnect the positive (red) terminal the same way.

Disconnect the battery tie-down using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Remove the battery from the battery tray by lifting it up and out. Put the used battery to one side.

Install the replacement battery by placing it into the battery tray, in the same orientation as the original battery, with the terminals in identical locations. Using the ratchet and socket, tighten the battery tie-down to hold the battery in place.

Attach the positive terminal of the battery to the positive battery cable using the adjustable wrench. Do the same for the negative terminal. Turn on the ignition of the 2001 Ford Ranger. Allow the truck to run for at least 10 minutes to assess whether the battery is functioning properly.
General Motors uses a Duramax diesel engine in some of their full-size trucks. Normally, a Duramax idles between 500 and 1000 RPMs when the engine is cold, but with a warm engine the RPMs typically reach around 2000. If you need to fix your idle speed, its important to disconnect the battery first to keep you from getting shocked while you work. Unlike most vehicles, the Duramax engine has two batteries instead of one. However, since they are hard-wired together -- running parallel -- you only disconnect the one closest to the engine. Overall its a simple process and only takes a few minutes.

Pull the hood release lever under the drivers side of the dashboard. Open and secure the hood of the truck. Then, locate the batteries. Youll notice two batteries sitting to the right of the engine, but only the battery closest to the engine connects to it. This is the one that needs to be disconnected.

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the black cover on the negative battery terminal. Using a wrench, loosen the nut attached to the clamp. Then, pull the negative battery cable from the post. Set it to the side where it wont touch anything metal.

Using a flathead screwdriver, take the red cover off the positive battery terminal. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the clamp in place. Then, pull the positive battery cable from the post. Put it to the side and make sure it wont come in contact with anything metal.
BMW automobiles use a 12-volt battery that is essential to start and operate all its intricate electronic features such as its computer screen that links you to the GPS system, phone, emergency assistance as well as various other functions. The Amp Hour (Ah) required for your BMW depends on the model you have. Charging a BMW battery is not a complicated procedure; however, the BMWs series determines the approach you must take to charge it.
Battery Specifications
BMW batteries are 100 percent maintenance-free. This means that you do not have to you to refill them with water from time to time. The maintenance-free batteries BMWs use last longer than the low-maintenance batteries and charge faster. According to the 2011 X5-X6 owners manual, the maintenance-free battery in a BMW lasts for the life of the battery when you operate the vehicle in a temperate climate.
Significance
The wiring system of a BMW vehicle is 12 volts. Therefore, you must ensure the device output you are using to charge the battery is of 12 volts and its Ah capacitance is approximately the same as your battery. The Ah of your BMWs battery is printed on the batterys casing, and displayed beside where it says "Ah."
Charging Battery
A BMW battery can be charged with a battery charger or with cables that pass charge using another car. The efficiency and speed of the charge will depend on how dead your battery is. For instance, if your X-series battery is completely dead and you are using a charger, you will need to charge the battery for no less than 12 hours. On the other hand, if you are passing a charge using another vehicle, it will charge faster; however, you will have to drive the car for at least 20 minutes so the battery gets a complete charge. Like with other vehicles, when charging X-series BMW batteries the alligator clamps connect red (positive) to red, and black (negative) to black. For safety reasons, the owners manual for the X-series BMW advises you to use fully-insulated clamp handles.
Charging Location
You can charge your BMWs battery directly from the battery or using the jump or charging posts found under the hood. The battery of a BMW is located in the trunk; however, the specific location depends on the model. Most models have the battery in the right side compartment of the trunk. Other BMWs have it in the center region of the trunk, under the cover and below the spare tire.
Encountering a dead battery in an area without another vehicle to jump start yours can leave you stranded for an extended length of time. Keeping a battery booster in your vehicle ensures you will have enough power to jump start your vehicle when stranded. A battery booster stores enough energy to start your vehicle in an emergency. Using the battery booster correctly will allow you to start your vehicle safely.

Pull the hood release lever located inside your vehicle. Open the hood and prop it open (if required).

Connect the red cable of the battery booster to the positive terminal post of the dead battery. Connect the black cable of the battery booster to the ground terminal post of the battery.

Turn on the battery booster.

Move the selection switch of the battery booster to "Start." The switch labeling may vary depending on the battery booster manufacturer.

Start the vehicle.

Turn off the battery booster. Disconnect the black cable from the battery and then disconnect the red cable. Close the vehicle hood.

Plug the battery booster into a grounded outlet. Set the booster to charge. Allow the booster to charge until the charging indicator reads "Full."
Side post battery terminals are commonly used in GM vehicles. However, this is not to say that a top post battery and terminals cannot be converted on almost any vehicle. To remove the side post battery terminal is just as easy (if not easier) than removing the top post battery terminal clamp. Side post battery terminals employ a bolt-type terminal that secures the respective battery cable to the battery.

Put on the safety goggles.

Place a suitable sized box-end wrench or a ratchet and socket on the hex-head of the (black-wired) negative side post battery terminal (removing the negative terminal post first will minimize the occurrence of sparks flying from the battery terminal, which could result in igniting flammable hydrogen gases emitting from the battery vents). Many GMs use an 8mm or 5/16-inch wrench (although aftermarket or converted side posts terminals may take a much larger wrench or socket). Also some side post batteries, but not all, restrict using a ratchet and socket due to limited room between the terminal post and other engine components.

Turn the wrench (or ratchet and socket) counterclockwise. Keep in mind that if the battery terminals are facing the engine compartment, the terminal bolt will require being loosened to the right (clockwise) in order to remove.

Isolate the battery terminal bolt from the battery so it does not come back into contact with the battery post while removing the positive (red-wired) battery terminal side post bolt in the same fashion. Some GM vehicles come equipped with a plastic cover for the positive battery terminal post to help prevent corrosion. If equipped, unsnap the cover by hand first.

Cranking Amps

Disconnecting a vehicle power or ground cable from a battery terminal allows you to safely work on your vehicle or exchange the battery. When you examine your battery, you will find either top-mounted or side-mounted terminals. Although the connectors look different, they both come off with similar tools. Top-mounted battery terminals require an extra step. In both cases, removing the risk of shock will increase your safety when working around the battery.

Loosen the nut located on the side of the battery ground post (the negative post, marked by a minus symbol) by turning it counterclockwise with an adjustable wrench.

Move the loosened battery terminal clamp from side to side until it starts to move without resistance.

Slide the end of a flat-head screwdriver under the terminal clamp. Twist the handle of the screwdriver to push the clamp away from the battery.

Lift the ground terminal from the battery post. Remove the positive terminal clamp from the battery using the method described.
Disconnect a Side-Mount Battery Terminal

Turn the ground bolt (the bolt that secures the ground cable to the battery ground terminal, marked by a minus sign) protruding from the center of the ground terminal counterclockwise with an adjustable wrench.

Continue turning the wrench until the terminal tilts on its side.

Pull the side-mounted terminal from the battery with your hand. Disconnect the positive terminal cable bolt in the same manner.
