How to Replace the Turn Signal Bulb in a 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle

Knowing how to maintain your vehicle can save you time and money. However, maintenance on your vehicle can be a bit challenging. Learning the basics, such as how to replace your turn signal bulbs, can be tricky but also one that is rewarding for both you and your wallet.

Instructions

    1

    Open the trunk of your vehicle and remove the round panel directly behind the taillight assembly.

    2

    Unscrew the exposed black knob to release the back light casing.

    3

    Locate the release tab on the light and pull out the casing. The release tab should be in the gap between the light casing and the portion of the vehicle closest to the hatch back door.

    Find the two exposed light switches on the back of the exposed light. One of the switches is for your vehicles brake light and the other is for the turn signal.

    5

    Disconnect the wires on the back of the turn signal and turn the switch counter-clockwise to remove.

    6

    Remove the old bulb and with the clean cloth, insert the new bulb. The bottom of the bulb must be lined up properly in order to secure itself in the casing.

    7

    Replace and reconnect the turn signal switch and wires. Replace the casing and secure the black knob and panel.

    8

    Turn on the turn signal to ensure that it is working properly.

The lions share of Land Rovers success is that it belongs just about everywhere. A Land Rover can belong in the verdant green Amazon as easily as it can in the neon glitz and glam of South Beach or Paris. It can climb the Malvern Hills of England, or it can ferry a bottle of champagne to the snowy mountain peaks of Argentina. Doubtless, if it could speak, the typical Land Rover would see its Homelink control system as something of an escape button. After all, a garage is probably the only place on Earth where this legend of trail and terazzo doesnt belong.

Instructions

    1

    Park in front of your garage door, and use the garage door transmitter to open it. Identify the three Homelink buttons; the garage door button and the two others. The exact color and location of the buttons will vary by the Homelink unit manufacturer.

    2

    Press and hold the two buttons that arent the garage door button. After approximately 20 seconds, the Homelink indicator light will flash. Release the buttons.

    3

    Hold your garage door opener up to the Homelink unit, and simultaneously press and hold the garage door buttons on the Homelink unit and on your garage door opener. The Homelink unit will record the garage door openers radio frequency.

    4

    The Homelink light will flash slowly, then quickly. Release both buttons. Press the Homelink garage door button; if the indicator lights up solid, then programming is complete. If it flashes and then turns solid, proceed to the next step.

    5

    Get out of the vehicle and locate the "learn" button on your garage door opener head motor that opens and closes the garage door. Within 30 seconds, get back into the vehicle and press and hold the Homelink button for two seconds. The indicator light will flash.

    6

    Press and hold the button two to three more times, until the garage door closes. The Homelink system and garage door head are now synchronized.

Where Is the Horn on a 2000 Ford F 250

For 2000 Ford F-250 trucks, the horns are mounted behind the radiator grille. Removing the horns requires detaching one retaining bolt. An electrical connector also links the horns themselves to the horn pad inside the vehicle.

Replacement

    Generally, car horns are not off-the-shelf items. To obtain a replacement, a F-250 owner would need to order through a dealership or an online retailer. The mechanical replacement process should only take a few minutes. Once the F-250s hood is opened, the horn can be located behind the grille. After the wiring is disconnected, only one bolt needs removal.

The Steering Wheel

    The F-250s horn can be sounded by pressing a component on the steering wheel. The horn also has components within the steering wheel, and getting to them requires partially dismantling the steering wheel itself. The horns electrical connections and wiring are near the airbag module. For reasons of safety, the F-250s airbag system should be disarmed before attempting to dismantle the steering wheel.

Disarming the Air Bags

    Disarming the F-250s air bag system requires opening the trucks hood. Remove the negative cable from the batterys negative terminal. Then, remove the positive cable from the positive terminal. Wait five minutes or more. The F-250 will have residual power within the vehicle. It needs to drain out or the air bags could still deploy.

Oxygen Sensor Types

Oxygen sensors provide information to the engine computer used to adjust the fuel mixture for efficient engine operation. There are two basic types of oxygen sensors and the sensors are used in two locations in many vehicles.

Unheated

    Oxygen sensors create their own electricity, but must be hot to do so. Older oxygen sensors are unheated, relying on heat from the engine exhaust to warm the sensor. Unheated oxygen sensors are easily identified as they have one or two wires connected to the sensor.

Heated

    Automobiles started using heated oxygen sensors in the 1990s; these oxygen sensors have an electrical heating element to warm the sensor. The advantage of heated oxygen sensors is they operate more quickly at startup than unheated sensors. Heated sensors have three or four wires connected to the sensor, with the added wires being used to operate the heating element.

Front and Rear

    Vehicles manufactured from the mid-1990s have oxygen sensors located in the exhaust system above and below the catalytic converter. The two oxygen sensors are used to determine changes in the exhaust gases after they have passed through the converter. If the system does not note a change, a dashboard light will indicate a problem to the driver.

How to Measure an Axle Shaft

Axle shafts are used on most non-commercial vehicles to allow the drive wheels of your vehicle to move in a circular manner. The shafts are located in your tires wheel well, near the differentials. They stretch across the bottom of the car, connecting two wheels together. Obtaining a measurement for an axle shaft is necessary when the axle shafts need to be replaced.

Instructions

    1

    Locate the axle shaft in your tire well. The axle shaft will have a large, grooved bearing near the center of your tire.

    2

    Place one end of the measuring tape at the edge of the grooved bearing of the axle shaft. Have someone hold the tape measure in place.

    3

    Extend the tape measure across the axle bearing until you reach the connected tire. Measure the length based on the distance from one tires grooved bearing to the other tires grooved bearing.

How to Change the Catalytic Converter on a Chevy Silverado

The catalytic converter regulates and reduces pollutants within the vehicles exhaust. Vehicles are required by law to have them, so you need to replace them if they are no longer working. On a current Chevy Silverado, the catalytic converters are welded to the front exhaust pipe assembly, so replacing a catalytic converter means replacing the entire front exhaust pipe assembly. This process can differ on older models (specifically ones made prior to 2007), so check with your mechanic.

Instructions

    1

    Raise the truck and support it on jack stands.

    2

    Disconnect the electrical connectors for the converters upstream and downstream oxygen sensors. Unscrew and remove the sensors using an oxygen sensor socket.

    3

    Unscrew and remove the three nuts that are on the upper-left and right flanges connecting the front exhaust pipe assembly to the exhaust manifolds flanges using a wrench. Remove the nuts for the rear flange of the front exhaust and remove the front exhaust pipe.

    4

    Install new flange gaskets onto the three mounting flanges of the replacement exhaust pipe (which will include the replacement converters).

    5

    Coat the threads on the mounting nuts and bolts with anti-seize compound. This includes the threads on the oxygen sensors.

    6

    Install the exhaust pipe system and securely tighten the nuts and bolts for the three flanges connecting it to the manifold and the rest of the exhaust system.

    7

    Connect the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors to the front exhaust pipe using the same socket as before.
