The 1993 Ford Mustang is a third generation of the car, which was in production from 1979 to 1993. The procedure for replacing the ignition coil in a 93 Mustang depends primarily on the engine. The engine is typically an 8-cylinder 5.0-liter Windsor engine. The ignition coil converts the 12 volts from the battery into the thousands of volts the spark plugs need to produce a spark. The ignition coil in a 1993 Mustang is located on the front of the engine.
Instructions
1 Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench.
2 Disconnect the connector for the electrical harness on the ignition coil. Depress the locking tabs on the spark plug wires to detach the wires from the spark plug boot of the ignition coil.
3 Remove the mounting screws for the ignition coil with a socket wrench. Disconnect the ignition coil from the engine.
4 Install the new ignition coil and tighten its retaining screws to between 40 and 62 in. lbs. with a torque wrench. Apply dielectric compound into the spark plug boots to maximize the electrical contact between the wires and boots. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plug boot on the ignition coil.
5 Attach the electrical connector for the ignition coils wiring harness. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench.

Losing your car keys is never a great way to start your day, especially if youre without a spare car key. Fortunately, replacing your car keys is not a difficult process. If your car is an older model, the process is simpler than replacing keys on newer model cars with special transponder keys. To replace your keys you will need to contact your car dealerships service department to order a new key.
Instructions
1 Locate and make note of the vehicle identification number (VIN) on your car. If your car is a late model vehicle, having the VIN is imperative to have as it provides the key code to your specific car. The person cutting your new keys will need this code to cut them correctly for your cars ignition.
2 Contact a locksmith or your vehicle dealership to order a new key. A locksmith who works with car keys can help you if your car is an earlier model. If you have a late model vehicle with a transponder key -- a keyless entry system -- youll have to contact your car dealership. These keys are only available through authorized dealerships for security reasons.
3 Pick up your new key. Depending on your dealers inventory, your key might be in stock or your key might have to be ordered. Your dealership will program your new keys for you.

A vehicles ignition switch is inside its steering column and is the mechanical device that sends a signal from the key to the engine to turn over. A key operates the ignition switch. In many late-model vehicles the ignition switch is programmed to work with specific car keys by using a pre-programmed key code. Acquiring new keys for your vehicle requires knowing your key code so the company cutting your keys can cut them to fit your ignition.
Instructions
1 Find the vehicle identification number on your vehicle. Typically, VINs are on the paperwork you signed and received when you purchased your vehicle, on your insurance card, title and registration and on the inside panel of the drivers door.
2 Call your vehicles service department or dealership to order a new key. Provide the dealership the VIN for your car. Your VIN contains a specialized key code that works only for your vehicle. This code will allow your dealership to correctly cut and shave your key to the correct size.
3 Pick up and pay for your new key. Use the owners manual that came with your vehicle to correctly program your new key to work with the vehicles ignition switch and computerized key code.

The 1998 Pontiac Grand Am has two parts to the ignition: the lock key and tumbler, and the electrical switch. The ignition switch is located on the steering column under the dash. The rod from the lock and key runs to the ignition switch to activate it. When you turn the key, this in turn will activate the ignition switch to make your vehicle start. All of your accessories run off your ignition switch.
Instructions
1 Raise the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent a short.
2 Detach the screws in the steering column cover and remove both pieces. You will need a Phillips screwdriver for the screw. You may need a flat screwdriver to separate the pieces of the cover.
3 Find the ignition switch on the steering column. The switch is attached by a screw or a bolt. Unscrew the bolt or screw and remove the ignition switch .
4 Unsnap the wiring from the switch and remove the wiring harness.
5 Replace the wiring in the back of the ignition switch. Replace the switch to the steering column and attach the screw or bolt. You will need a screwdriver or a wrench.
6 Replace the two parts of the steering column and replace the screws.
7 Rotate the key to crank the engine to start the vehicle. The new ignition switch will allow the vehicle to start up.

The ignition is a part on your Impala which helps you to start the engine. Continuous use of a vehicle can cause difficulties in starting the engine over time. This can lead to certain parts of the vehicle needing to be replaced. If you have tried replacing both the starter and the alternator and your vehicle still wont start, then you may have to replace the ignition. The process is challenging but you can complete this in your own garage.
Instructions
1 Open up the hood and disconnect the negative connection from the battery. Use a screwdriver to remove the safety bolts on the upper and lower steering column covers.
2 Remove the steering wheel from its fixed position. Use a wrench to remove the retaining nut around the wheel. Disconnect the horn wire. Remove the turn signals on the steering wheel by pulling them and disconnecting the wiring.
3 Slide off the steering column cover. Use the screwdriver to unscrew the ignition mounting screws. Disconnect the wiring connector from the ignition switch and pull the switch out.
4 Place the key in the ignition and turn it to the locked position. Use the screwdriver to remove the retaining pin and turn the key back to free the ignition. Remove the key cylinder.
5 Insert the new ignition switch in the cylinder. Make sure the contacts line up correctly. Reattach the ignition and replace the steering wheel and switches. Turn on the engine to ensure it is working correctly.
