A car door with damaged hinges is a lot easier to fix than having to replace the entire door. After all, modifying the car door hinges requires only the replacement of a few nuts and bolts to strengthen it, where as a damaged door would require for the owner to seek out a replacement door of the same car model and year it was made. Also, the person would need the same door for the correct side, whether its for the front or back, driver or passenger sections. The costs for replacing the car door would add up to several hundred dollars, however the driver and owner of the car is very lucky that the door hinge of the car only needs to be fixed and tightened in order to prevent it from sagging. The cost for this sagging hinge to be repaired can be from $35 to $50 if it is taken to an auto shop. However, it is possible to fix it yourself and be finished within fifteen minutes if you have the right knowledge.

Instructions

    1

Open the car door and lift it up slightly. Prop it up with a floor jack or use a piece of rope to tie the door frame to something above you and the car door. If you have neither, then use a patient assistant to hold it up for you while it takes you ten minutes to fix the door hinge. Either way, dont ever let the door hang on only one hinge while fixing it.

    2

Remove the bolts holding the car door hinge. Use a hammer to remove the hinge pin. Tap until it begins to slide out. With the pins tapped out, it will be easier to unscrew the bolts connected to the inner hinge.

    3

Use a socket wrench and loosen the bolts connected to the inner hinge. You will also need to use another socket wrench or a grip device to hold the bolt in place while you loosen the nut.

    4

Reverse the previous procedure by replacing the old hinge with a new one and lining it up to tighten the bolts. Hammer the pins too. Once the door is set up and is no longer damaged, finish up the tightening process and your car door will be as good as new.
