The problem of a 1989 Chevy truck that will not start can be broken down into two components: the battery and the fuel level. If you cant get your truck to start, there are several things that you can do to remedy the situation. Jump-starting the battery will breathe new life into the battery and start the truck. However, if the battery is completely dead, the truck will not be able to restart. Filling the truck with gas could be the quick fix that you need to get the truck started.

Instructions

    1

Turn the key to the "On" position. If the key turns on the gauges, check your fuel level. Add gas to the truck to get it started. If the gauges do not turn on, you have a problem with your battery.

    2

Open the trucks hood to gain access to the battery. Connect the positive and negative leads from your jumper cable to the positive and negative terminals on your battery.

    3

Connect the positive and negative leads from your jumper cables to the positive and negative leads on a different cars battery.

    4

Start the other car and then start your truck. Allow the trucks battery to charge for five minutes. Turn the truck off.

    5

Restart the truck. If the truck does not restart, replace the battery with a new one.
