1993 Chevy Corsica Fuel Pump Replacement Instructions

Monday, November 17, 2014 | Labels: , , , , , , | 0 comments |

Fuel pump failure will stop a car in its tracks. An engine sputtering and shutting off is the most notable sign of pump failure. If there is gas in your tank and your car sputters and shuts down you may need to replace your fuel pump. The fuel pump is located inside your gas tank and it can be replaced within two to five hours with all of the proper tools.

Instructions

Relieve Fuel Pressure

    1

Remove the gas cap to relieve any pressure in the gas tank.

    2

Disconnect the wiring for the fuel pump assembly that is located behind the fuel filter hose, if you have a model with port fuel injection. The fuel filter hose is near the fuel filter just in front of the back tire on the passengers side.

    3

Run the engine until it uses all of the remaining fuel and stops running.

    4

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Remove Fuel Tank

    5

Siphon gas out of your tank or use the fuel up if it is more than one-eighth full. Use a siphon pump to siphon fuel out of your vehicle. Insert one hose end in to the gas tank and the other in to a fuel-safe container. Pump the fuel out of the tank into the container.

    6

Engage the emergency brake and block the front wheels. Raise the back of your vehicle up with a jack and place it on jack stands. Remove the jack.

    7

Disconnect the wiring for the fuel pump assembly if you have not already done so. Disconnect the vapor return hose, the filler neck, and the vent tubes. Disconnect the fuel feed hose, and the fuel-return hose as well.

    8

Support the fuel tank with the jack and remove both restraining straps. Lower the tank until you can access the wires and remove the ground strap and the wire.

    9

Lower the fuel tank to the ground and bring it out from under your car.

Remove the Fuel Pump

    10

Using a punch and hammer, gently tap the inner ring counter clockwise until the inner cams are free.

    11

Pull the fuel pump out of the tank. Make sure not to bump it on anything because the fuel level float and the fuel sending unit are delicate and even a small bump will render the readings inaccurate.

    12

Check the o-ring on top of the fuel pump and the filter on the bottom of it. If the o-ring is cracked or dry, replace it. If the filter cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced.

Audi Shift Lock Override Instructions

Most cars equipped with an automatic transmission have a feature commonly known as "shift lock," which prevents the driver from shifting out of park when the car is off, when the foot brake isnt applied or when the cars computer senses damage to the engine or transmission. Whatever the situation, sometimes the driver has to override a locked transmission in order to move the car.

Instructions

    1

Apply pressure to the foot brake, and turn the engine on.

    2

Attempt to shift from park. Sometimes the car rolls backwards during parking, causing the shifter to be slightly stuck, not "locked." If it doesnt budge, its probably the shift lock.

    3

    Turn off the engine.

    4

Search "shift lock" in the index of your Audis manual. Over the years, Audi has used different types of shift locks, two of the most common being an actual button near the shifter, and the other requiring the removal of the plastic panel surrounding the shifter.

    5

Depress the shift-lock override button. If the button or mechanism is under the panel that surrounds the shifter, follow your manuals instructions to remove the panel.

    6

Shift the car into neutral while still holding or pressing the shift lock override and with pressure still applied to the brake.

    7

Turn on the engine while the car is in neutral, and shift into drive or reverse.

Instructions for a Plasti Kote Rust Converter

Saturday, March 22, 2014 | Labels: , , , , , , | 1 comments |

Plasti-Kote is a rust converter solution. Rust is traditionally removed by scraping and priming. However, Plasti-Kote converts the rust into harmless chemicals and creates a protective film on the surface so there is no need for scraping. Rust converters are commonly used on automobile surfaces. You can apply Plasti-Kote rust remover by following a few techniques.

Instructions

    1

Remove loose rust from the affected area with a clean, bristled brush. This will prevent any loose rust from getting sealed into the affected areas when applying the rust remover.

    2

Clean the rusted area with mild dishwashing soap and water then let dry. Apply a degreaser. This will prevent surface contaminants from interfering with the reaction of the rust converter.

    3

Dip the applicator brush into the solution then apply an even coat to the rusted areas. It will take 24 hours for the rust converter to fully dry.

    4

Apply a second coat of Plasti-Kote. Wait another 24 hours for the rust converter to completely dry before painting.

Perform a safety check of the loaded pallet. Make sure the pallet load is secure, while checking the pallet itself for defects.

    2

Check the orientation of the pallet; make sure one of the two partitioned openings of the pallet is accessible to the forked-end of the hand pallet truck.

    3

Steer the hand pallet truck to the loaded pallet, using the trucks handlebars

    4

Squeeze the handlebar lever to lower the forks. Release the lever to return the lever to the neutral position.

    5

Push the forks into the partitioned openings of the pallet. Make sure the forks are fully and evenly inserted.

    6

Push the handlebar lever down to the lowest position. Grasp the handlebars with both hands and pump the handle several times, while checking the pallet height from the floor. Ensure the pallet is elevated from the ground at all four corners.

    7

Move the handlebar lever to the center position after selecting the appropriate pallet height.

    8

Pull and steer the load to the desired location. Push the load from behind, using the handlebars, when backing the pallet into a tight area.

Drive Belt Assembly Instructions for the 1997 Dodge Dakota V6

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 | Labels: , , , , , , , , , | 0 comments |

The engine accessories on the 1997 Dodge Dakota V6 engine are driven by a single drive belt. The belt is routed around all of the engine accessories in such a way that it operates each accessory. As the belt is being driven around the alternator, the air conditioner pump, the power steering pump and the water pump, it enables the accessories to function. Excessive exposure to the heat of the engine can cause the belt to fray. If you notice fraying or excessive cracking on the belt, change it as soon as possible before it breaks.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and lock it in place.

    2

Locate the big crankshaft pulley on the bottom center of the engine. Wrap the belt around the bottom of the crankshaft pulley so that the ribs on the inside of the belt are seated inside the grooves of the crankshaft pulley.

    3

Wrap the belt around the right side of the crankshaft pulley and over the top of the crankshaft pulley. Wrap the belt around the top of the water pump pulley with the flat surface of the belt inside the water pump pulley.

    4

Pull the belt over to the power steering pump pulley. Route the belt completely around the power steering pump pulley, with the inside ribs of the belt seated inside the grooves of the power steering pump pulley.

    5

Pull the belt over the top of the air conditioner pulley, with the ribs of the belt seated inside the pulley.

    6

Pull the belt under the idler pulley, with the flat surface of the belt against the surface of the pulley.

    7

Pull the belt up and around the alternator pulley, with the ribs of the belt seated inside the alternator pulley grooves.

    8

Move back down to the crankshaft and pull the left side of the belt up and around the air pump pulley. The only pulley left is the belt tensioner pulley.

    9

Locate the bolt head in the middle of the belt tensioner pulley. Position a breaker bar and a metric socket on the bolt head. Turn the breaker bar counterclockwise to move the tensioner out of the way of the belt. Slide the flat surface of the belt under the tensioner pulley and release the breaker bar. Remove the breaker bar from the tensioner and the engine compartment.

    10

Crank the engine for 10 to 15 seconds to completely seat the belt inside each pulley.
